This paper reports on a study of perceptions and attitudes of staff at the University of Bradford towards ODL (Open and Distance Learning). The study is undertaken in a context of increased demand for ODL driven by factors of cost and changes in student demographics and learning culture. The article reports findings on: the degree of application of learning technologies; the potential for delivering courses using distance learning technologies; departmental and institutional strategies for increasing flexibility; effective practices for change and innovation; impacts on policy in areas such as admissions and module design; general implementation of ODL, including considerations of resources, commitment, collaboration and quality assurance; and other issues such as the role of professional bodies and intellectual property rights.
